Waypoints

Waypoints allow asset managers to monitor the movement of their assets in real time, and to mark that progress on the interface. Waypoints are best used with live tracking as a means of keeping managers informed of the intended destination or checkpoint of their monitored Asset. Because each Asset can only have a single Waypoint in the portal at a time, Waypoints are temporary and should only be considered for live applications.

Users will have to mark waypoints complete manually, but future versions of the portal software will be expanding the functionality of Waypoints to include Asset-managed applications.

Setting Waypoints

To set a waypoint for any Asset, use the following steps:

  1. Open the Assets Module
  2. Click the cog icon next to the Asset whose Waypoint you wish to set
  3. Use the Set Waypoint button in the Asset Options tab
  4. Choose the location for the Waypoint

Set Waypoint Fields

The Set Waypoint tool has 4 different options for setting its location.

Place
Users can select a Place from the drop-down menu of Places saved to the portal.

Lat/Lng
Users can manually input the coordinates for the Waypoint location.

Address Search
Users can search for the location if it is a known landmark or location.

Click the Map
Users can click the map interface to populate the Lat/Lng of their desired Waypoint location.

Once the location has been set, users will be asked to name the Waypoint (default is to populate the address) and provide an optional message that will appear if the Waypoint is clicked in the interface.

Viewing Waypoints

Waypoints on the map display as a small flag icon that can be clicked. When clicked, they open a Summary Panel with two buttons that allow users to mark the Waypoint complete or open the Get Route Tool with the waypoint location populated as the endpoint.

A Waypoint will also appear as a Flag indicator icon in the List Panel next to the Asset that has it. Users can hover over the icon to see the address of the Waypoint. Clicking the Flag icon snaps the map view to the Waypoint location and opens the Summary Panel.
